If you plan on having a big one, get yourself sorted beforehand:
Get some rest before going out. Sleep is very important - without it things can start to go haywire. Mood swings, crankiness, sketching out and psychosis are all too common when you don't get sleep and you're using. So try and pace yourself - get some sleep even if you don't feel tired. Eventually you'll just be wasting your drugs and your $$. Some users have a hit of heroin to come down - this is not advisable.
- ALWAYS USE EXTREME CARE WHEN MIXING DRUGS AS IT CAN BE A COCKTAIL FOR DEATH.
- A good way to get some sleep is to meditate, get a massage or put on some relaxing music.
- If you still can't sleep - just lying down for a while and relaxing is better than nothing.
- It's important to make sure you eat to avoid stomach cramps. Make it healthy and carbohydrate rich like pasta or even small snacks like fruit, yogurt, cereals or other nourishing foods are better than eating nothing at all. If you have been bingeing a lot sometimes even vitamin supplements may help you feel better.
Sip water regularly
- Keep fluids up, but avoid caffeine or anything that can cause nausea. Try to avoid alcohol as this not only interferes with the effects of the drug but can make you dehydrated.
- It's important to keep well hydrated and keep your temperature down. Each hour sip 500mls of water if dancing or 250mls if chilling.
- Don't gulp water or drink too much as this can change chemical levels in the body and shut down some body functions including breathing.
- Psychostimulants can cause sweating and high activity levels cause both electrolytes* and water to be lost. Drinking water (in large quantities) only can upset the delicate balance, and hyponatremia (water intoxication) can result. One way to prevent both dehydration and hyponatremia is to drink water or an electrolyte drink such as PowerAde, Gatorade or fruit juice. Be sure to sip drinks frequently, rather than gulping large quantities. Supplementing 250-500ml of water every hour with 1 sports drink every 2-3 hours is a good alternative if you're dancing hard. This will replenish your body's electrolytes and prevent hyponatremia.
Veg out often while raving - take breaks regularly from dancing and rest in the chill out room or get a pass for some fresh air.
- If feeling unwell, alert friends or get first aid.
*Electrolytes are minerals in your blood and other body fluids that carry an electric charge. It's important for the balance of electrolytes to be maintained because they affect the amount of water in your body, blood pH, muscle action and other important processes. You lose electrolytes when you sweat and these must be replaced by drinking fluids.
