The Illicit Drug Reporting System (IDRS) is a national drug monitoring system that provides annual data on the price, purity, availability and patterns of heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and cannabis use across all the states and territories of Australia. The IDRS is conducted by the National Drug & Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC). IDRS reports for each year can be downloaded in full from the NDARC website: http://ndarc.med.unsw.edu.au under 'Drug Trends'. There are also quarterly bulletins and separate reports for each state and territory.

AIVL also conducted a peer-based research project in 2004 into the hepatitis C transmission risks among injecting psychostimulant users. Psychostimulants include methamphetamine, cocaine, ecstasy and other amphetamine-type substances. The results of the AIVL hepatitis C and psychostimulant use study are available in the published report titled: National Snapshot on Hepatitis C Transmission Risks Among Injecting Psychostimulant Users. A full copy of this report can be downloaded from the AIVL website: www.aivl.org.au (under 'Other Projects'/ 'Policy'/ 'Resources'). The main aim of the AIVL National Snapshot was to inform the work of the AIVL National Hepatitis C Education Program and the AIVL National Hepatitis C Treatments Program. This website was developed in response to the findings of the AIVL National Snapshot.

AIVL is a peak national organisation with state and territory member organisations across Australia. The state and territory drug user organisations are peer-based which means they are run by and for people who use illicit drugs. The state and territory drug user organisations produce tailored education materials and can provide information and support for people who use methamphetamines and/or other psychostimulants. If you would like to contact your local drug user organisation their details can be found on the AIVL website: www.aivl.org.au (under 'Member Organisations') or click on the link above.

The Australian Government also has a National Psychostimulants Initiative to address the health challenges that can be associated with psychostimulant use. More information on this initiative can be found at: www.health.gov.au (under 'For Consumers'/'Education and Prevention'/'Illicit Drugs').
