Psychostimulants are illegal in Australia. Federal, State and Territory laws include penalties for possessing, using, making or selling amphetamines. Australian drug laws distinguish between those who use drugs and those who supply or traffic drugs.

Illegal use, possession, manufacture or supply of amphetamines carries heavy fines and/or imprisonment. Penalties range from a $2000 fine and/or 2 years in jail to $250 000 and/or imprisonment for up to 25 years.

In addition, any person convicted of a drug offence will receive a criminal record and this can lead to difficulties in getting a job, credit or visas for overseas travel.
