Anyone can overdose when using drugs. Even a small amount can cause an overdose in users who have an especially strong reaction to it. Sometimes a new batch of drugs that you haven't tried before might be particularly strong and could lead to an overdose.
When someone overdoses, it may cause:
- Amphetamine psychosis or fitting
- Faster, irregular heartbeat
- Heart attack
- Bleeding blood vessel in the brain
- Very high fever
- Death (rarely)
Mixing different drugs can also make overdose more likely.
Excess can = overdose
- Try to avoid mixing drugs
- If you're not sure of the strength of anything, always begin with a small amount. More is not necessarily better; more can make you messy and too much can result in collapse or overdose.
- If you're feeling unwell, or someone collapses, tell somebody and seek First Aid.
REMEMBER - Police will not come to a drug related (overdose) call unless there is risk of violence or other danger or if specifically called.
